A Complete Guide To Garageband For Windows And Mac

When the first iMac was built, Garageband was introduced as part of the free software that comes pre-installed. By positioning itself as part of fellow iLife apps like now-defunct – iPhoto and iMovie, Apple intended to have music making into something that is both easy and accessible to everyone just like taking pictures or videos.

There is an enormous shift in the way music is currently produced. What used to take oodles of instruments and gears, has now reduced to a single piece of software installed in a laptop. What Are The Requirements To Run A Virtual Machine On Windows

Before downloading a virtual machine, you need to check if your computer meets the minimum specification requirements. The first thing you need to check is your processor.

Intel Processors – Your Intel processor can be checked to see if it supports virtualization by using the Intel Virtualization Technology utility tool. It is recommended to run on an Intel-based processor as virtual machines are supported on most Intel chipsets by default.

AMD Processors – Some AMD processors do not support virtualization. So, if you are running on an AMD processor, you will need to check if your AMD processor supports AMD – V or not. If it does not support AMD – V, then there is not much that can be done other than to try and get another device which supports the use of a virtual machine.

Guide To Check If Your AMD Processor Supports AMD- V

  • Navigate to the official AMD website through your browser. Download the Hyper V Compatibility Utility Tool which is the compatibility checker for the AMD – V.
  • The download will take a few minutes, and you will get a compressed file in your download location. You will need WinRar on your computer to extract this file as it is a RAR file.
  • Right click on the compressed file and tap on ‘extract’ after confirming the target address location where the file is to be extracted.
  • Head to the location where the file has been extracted. You will see a file named “AMD Hyper V”. Right click on this file and select ‘Run as Admin’.

Following these four easy steps will show you if your AMD computer supports virtual machine.

The next step is installing a Mac desktop virtualization tool on your PC/laptop. It is recommended to use Mac Sierra OS for best results.

How To Get Garageband For Windows PC?

How To Get Garageband For Windows PC?

Garageband comes preinstalled on all Mac OS and iOS devices. But if you are using a windows laptop or PC, sadly Garageband Windows is not natively available. There are a lot of websites that claim to offer a windows version of the program. To the best of my knowledge, all these are fake.

The reason being, Garageband was never made to be supported on any other OS platform other than Mac OS and iOS as its owned by Apple. In all probability, these downloads are full of malware, adware and bogus content.

The only legitimate way that I found while running Garageband for Windows PC or laptop is by setting up a Mac virtual machine and executing Garageband within it. However, your computer needs to have sufficient resources for running a virtual machine. On my laptop, I run the MacOS Sierra inside a desktop virtualization tool accurately.

How To Use Garageband on Mac And Windows

When you open Garageband, you will first need to create a new project. We will be selecting ‘Empty Project’ for this guide. But make sure to explore the other options as it is a great way to find your way around the app. Once you click on ‘Choose’, you will be asked to add a track. Select any one and click on ‘Create’.

Once you are through with this, you will be taken to the main Garageband window. On the left of the screen is the Library which lets you choose different instruments. Using Apple’s considerable library of loops is a great way to get the hand of GarageBand. Loops are short stretches of music that you can use as a base for your own composition.  Once you’ve opened up your new project, press the O key, or go to ‘View’ and then head to Show Apple Loops’.

You can also tweak the Tempo of tracks by navigating to the ‘Beats and Project’ window on the top of the screen. The default tempo is set at 120 beats per minute, but you are free to increase or decrease the tempo for your track.

You can try experimenting with different loops or repeat the same loop. This way you can integrate the sounds of different instruments and arrange them into your new track. Garageband also allows a lot of tweaking with loops, so keep experimenting and playing with your music.
